New Changes to the District Pine Car Derby
|
The council approved new changes to the Derby we hope will bring in more competitors and a whole lot more fun.
We have added two new divisions: Classics and Semi-Truck
Classics Division: Bring up the old cars of the past and see if they still got what it takes to fly to the finish. Race only open division. All derby rules
apply.
Semi-Truck Division: These trucks are 2.75" wide, 4" high, 15" long, and weigh 15oz. This will be a craft and a race open division. All trucks will
be judged on both craft and race.
You may enter into these divisions without having to compete at the local level. If participation becomes as normal as the car derby we will then
consider following the same participation rules as in the regular car derby. We are encouraging all local trains include these divisions into your
normal racing derby.
Here are the rules for the Semi-Truck Derby
This derby is an open class race for all pioneers and adults. Trucks must conform to these rules and pass inspection on weigh-in before they are
entered into the derby.
1. Maximum dimensions: 2.75 inches in width, 4 inches in height, and 15 inches in length.
2. Only BSA wheels and axles are allowed.
3. Trucks may not exceed 15oz in total weight.
4. Any loose parts or other material on trucks are prohibited.
5. Any type of wheel bushing, bearings, washers, and packing is prohibited. Springs or other starting devices are prohibited.
6. If the axle or wheel area of the truck is concealed or painted in such a manner that rule 5 cannot be verified, the judges reserve the right to
remove materials to check conformance.
7. Wheel surfaces may be sanded smooth but cannot be significantly altered in width or diameter. NO V-Shaped Wheels.
8. Trucks must be shaped in such a way that the center of the front of the truck is the first part of the truck to cross the finish line.
9. You may use other materials to complete your truck to your satisfaction. Example: Parts from a model kit, toy cars to place on top of flat bed, etc.
You must, however, stay within the size and weight limitations.
10. The judges reserve the right to disqualify any truck deemed to have violated the intent of these rules.
Truck kits can be ordered at:
http://indyproducts.com/shop/page9.html
The kits are $10.50 plus $10.50 shipping if you buy individually. If the kits are ordered in larger quantities the overall cost will be cheaper. You
may purchase these alone or get with your train to take orders ahead of time, then order them at one time. Divide the shipping costs between all
who order their trucks.
You can enter in the regular division, the classics division, and the semi-truck division, but you must pay a separate entrance fee to each
division entered.
Trophies will be awarded in this fashion for all divisions. 1st place gets a trophy, 2nd and 3rd place gets a ribbon, and there will be no more
participation ribbons given except to the Buckaroos.

Do you have the creative spirit to match up to trucks such as these? We hope so and we want to see as many as we can.

The First Annual Fishing Outing and Tournament Hampered by Weather
|
The first annual fishing outing and tournament did not goes well as planned. The weather
had no respect for us as it was cold, breezy, and rainy. This was probably part of the
reason we had such a low attendance. In fact, only two families participated in the fishing
tournament despite the weather, the Evenson family and the Clancy family. We were also
surprised to find out that the pier area where we were suppose to have our tournament
was closed. I contacted DNR and they did not offered a reason as to why.
We did enjoy some camp style coffee and to filter the grounds, we used, what else, our
pioneer scarf. Just another one of the many uses our scarfs have.
The winner of the biggest fish goes to Jared Clancy.
The winner of the most pounds goes to the Clancy family with 7 fish, second place goes to
the Evenson family with 3 fish. (We did not have a scale to weigh - was left behind)
Unfortunately we only caught bullhead this date.
