Sunbeam Day Camp
Friday, June 26
10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
St. Peter Lutheran Church
St. Peter, MN
This day is designed specially for the Sunbeams
(Kindergarten – 2nd Grade).  We have a full day of
activities planned just for our youngest Girl Pioneers.
This is also a good way to introduce LGP to the girls
who will be getting ready for Kindergarten and the
Pioneer next fall.

This year’s theme “You and Me – Fit for Thee!” will help
us learn about how special God has made each of us.
We will have some lessons, crafts, music, and of
course snacks and lunch.

More details and registration forms will be sent later
this spring.  For now, mark your calendars, and plan on
attending! Girls are encouraged to bring their friends
(even if they are not in Pioneers).

A planning meeting for the Sunbeam Day is set for
Sunday, May 17, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in St.
Peter at 1:30 PM. Anyone wishing to help with the
planning of the Day is welcome to join us!

Any questions about the Sunbeam Day Camp can be
directed to Eileen Heine, 952-758-2077 or
exheine@comcast.net

As soon as possible after your local race, please forward the winners’ names to Les Ring in New Ulm, E-mail,
lring@newulmtel.net. Phone: 507-354-5367. His phone number is also a fax line so the information can be sent via
fax as well. He would like the information by the Tuesday before the District Derby if possible. The information
should also be sent to Eileen Heine, exheine@comcast.net so that registration stickers can be made.
Each caravan is eligible to send the following cars to the District Derby:

Girl Pioneers  (3rd Grade & older)                3 Speed
Girl Pioneers  (3rd Grade & older)                1 Design
                                 Sunbeams (K-2nd Grade)                              3 Speed
                                 Sunbeams (K-2nd Grade)                              1 Design

                                 Open Class                                                      3 Speed
(One entry per church)                                     1 Design
The entry fee for the Girl Pioneers and Sunbeams is $3.00 per car.  This needs to be paid separate from the Open
Class and Boys fees, to the District Girl Pioneers.  The Boy Pioneers collect the fees for the Boys and the Open
Class Cars.  The fee for the Boys’ and Open Class cars is also $3.00 per car. In addition the boys collect their
district dues the night of the derby ($2.00 per Boy Pioneer). District dues for the group must be paid for both the
boys and the girls before the cars will be allowed to compete.

After the district derby, the winning cars will be collected and either sent together or taken to the National Derby.  If
the winner is planning to attend the National Derby, they may take their car to the derby themselves. The National
entry fee of $5.00 per car will be billed to the caravans sending cars. If necessary the shipping costs are paid by the
District.  We are able to send a total of 12 cars to the National Derby: 3 LGP and 3 Sunbeam for speed, and 3 LGP

only girls
who are Nationally Registered Girl Pioneers are eligible to compete at the District or International Derby.

The International Derby will be held this year on Saturday, April 18, 2009, at King of Grace, Golden Valley, for both
the boys and girls.  Information about the National Derby will be available at the District Derby. Having the
International Derby so close to our district is a great opportunity for our members (even if you don’t have a car to
enter) to see a National Derby!

The District Girls will be taking care of the concession stand at the District derby, if any adults can help in the
concession stand and help with clean-up, contact Colleen Johnson the night of the derby.
Swim &
Gym Day
Hosted by the District 19
Lutheran Girl Pioneers
Girl Pioneers, parents, siblings, and friends are invited to join us from 1:00-4:00 PM on Sunday, March 22. The
Rec Center is open on Sundays from 1:00-5:00 if you would like to spend additional time there. The pool closes at
4:00, but the gym is available until 5:00.

The cost of admission is $3.50 per person; this includes use of the gym, pool, or walking track. There is an
additional charge of $1.50 if you would like to use the water slide.  Be sure to tell the Rec. Center staff that you are
part of the Lutheran Pioneer Group to qualify for the group discount.

Activities available at the Rec. Center include: basketball, volleyball, scooters, and swimming. Anyone using the
pool should bring their own towels and anyone using the gym should have clean tennis shoes.

We will have the community room reserved from 1:00 to 4:00 PM for refreshments and fellowship. Each family is
asked to bring some type of munchies to share, beverages will be provided.  We will meet in the community room
during the afternoon for a devotion and snack time.  We will try to schedule the devotion at the same time as a
swimming break.
                                Directions
There is a slight change in the directions to the Rec.
Center. Coming from Mankato, the intersection
between Hwy 60 and Co Rd 20 now requires you to
make a right exit off Hwy 60 and then proceed to Co
Rd 20.  Or you can turn south onto Main Street at the
Dairy Queen and follow Main Street through town to
the Rec. Center.
We look forward to seeing you on March 22!

If you have any questions, contact Eileen Heine at 952-758-2077.
As an organization founded to keep our girls "Loyal to Christ", Lutheran Girl Pioneers
(LGP) shall strive to develop in each member her potential for leadership through
personal interaction skills with others and promote service to the Lord and to the
world around her. This will be accomplished through worship, evangelism,
education, citizenship and recreational activities, all centered in God's word and
consistent with the doctrine of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod or of a
Lutheran Church in doctrinal fellowship with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran
Synod.
